Getting back to your story

This device can remember your sign-in, but you may need to log in again after changing devices or clearing browser data.
Starting a recording
- Open your story and choose the button to begin.
- Your browser may ask to use the microphone. Choose “Allow” when you are ready to record.
- Try a short answer first. Read the on-screen status before closing the page.
If the microphone is blocked, open this website’s permissions in your browser and enable Microphone. Then return to the recording page. You can ask someone you trust to help with this step.
If a recording is waiting to upload, keep this device and browser available. Do not clear browser data or switch to private browsing. Follow the recovery option shown in your story.
The interviewer is AI software. You can tell it you want a different question, pause, or stop for today. You do not need to give an answer to every question.
Open my recording pageHelping someone get started
- Use your own account to start a story for someone you are helping.
- Open “Finish their sign-in setup” in My stories. Enter an email they can access and create their private setup link.
- Open that link on their device. Help them log in or create an account, confirm their email if asked, and choose “Connect my story”.
- Try one short recording together. Show them how to pause, finish, return and ask for help.
The account that manages their book can review their stories. Explain this before recording. Share the setup link privately.
On phones that support it, your browser’s Share or menu button may offer “Add to Home Screen”. The steps vary by device. It is optional.
Open My storiesPlan a community project
For Indigenous Elders, families and communities considering a story project: begin with what you want recorded, who may hear it, and the protocols your project needs to follow.
A community project needs decisions from the people and community concerned. The standard family account does not provide a complete community archive or a custom cultural permissions system. Indigenous-language transcription and translation have not been qualified for a community deployment.
Use this planning brief with the Elders, Knowledge Holders or other people your community chooses. Nothing you write in the downloaded file is submitted to this website.

- What outcome does your community want, and who should guide the project?
- Which languages, dialects and writing systems need support?
- Who can consent to recording, editing, AI processing and sharing each type of material?
- What should remain private, and who may review or receive it?
- Where should originals be kept, who controls access, and what should happen if this service ends?
- Who will help participants, review accuracy and organise the archive?
The brief is a starting point for planning. It does not make a story ready to record or establish community approval.
