How your information is used
In plain words
- The family member who manages the account can read and hear everything.
- Recordings and stories are stored in Canada, in Montreal.
- To transcribe and write, they pass through Deepgram, Anthropic and ElevenLabs, which are in the United States.
- Nothing is put on a public page.
- A printed book can carry one code for a short message the storyteller records for readers, only if you choose it. Anyone holding the book can scan it and hear that message, never the stories' recordings. You can switch it off at any time.
- Download a backup whenever you like. We do not promise to keep it forever, so keep your own copy.
- The account manager can delete the story account and its recordings.
Worth the Telling uses software to help turn spoken memories into written stories. Please understand who can access the material before you begin.
Who can read and listen
The storyteller and the account's family manager can access its recordings, transcripts and stories. If someone else set up your account, the material is shared with that person. There are no separate private-story permissions within a shared account.
Stories are not published on a public page by this app. Anyone you give a downloaded copy to can keep or share that copy.
The storyteller can record a short message for the people who will read the book. If you choose, one code inside the front and on the back plays it, without signing in, so anyone holding the book can hear it. The code plays that message and nothing else: the stories' own recordings stay private to the account. It is long and random, is not listed anywhere, and switching it off on your print page stops it for good.
What the services do
Supabase stores account information, recordings and written material, in Canada (Montreal). Resend delivers account confirmation and password-reset emails. Deepgram transcribes recordings. Anthropic helps prepare interview questions and story drafts. ElevenLabs can create spoken questions. Stripe handles card payment and subscription records. If you order a printed book, Lulu receives the book files, shipping address and courier contact details to print and deliver it. Vercel hosts the app and provides usage analytics. Help questions and replies are stored to provide support.
Your words must be processed by these services for the relevant features to work. The software can mishear or make mistakes. Check names, dates and meaning before approving a story.
Your originals and corrections
Photos you add are stored privately with the book. We remove embedded location and camera metadata when preparing the saved image. Photos and captions appear in PDF and Word exports.
The app keeps original answers and saves transcript corrections separately. Story edits create earlier versions you can review. Download approved stories as PDF or Word, written material as a text archive, and each original recording from your recordings page.
Stopping a monthly renewal does not delete the story account. A downloaded copy remains on your device until you remove it.
Deleting your account
The account manager can delete a story account from its book page. This stops its monthly plan and removes its stored recordings, stories and drafts. When the last account using a login is removed, we also remove that login and its saved help conversations.
You can choose to remove pending recordings from the browser used for deletion. Downloads, other devices and copies shared with others must be removed separately. An active print order needs to be resolved before deletion; deleting the account cannot recall a parcel or cancel a printer's order.
Payment records and service-provider backups may be retained under those providers' policies. We cannot promise immediate removal of every provider backup. Contact us for help with a deletion request.
Before recording sensitive or community material
This app does not currently provide community-specific access protocols, independent community custody or verified support for every language. Do not use it for culturally restricted material unless the people with authority over that material have agreed to this workflow.
Plan a community projectThese notes describe the app's current workflow. They do not promise permanent storage, a specific hosting jurisdiction, or a provider retention policy. Keep your own copies of material you want to preserve.
